MT. ZION’S HISTORY AT A GLANCE
1919 TO THE PRESENT
The inspiration for organizing a congregation that would later become Mt. Zion grew out of the hearts of two small missions located in the Jacksonville and Heights sections of Clearwater.
Persons residing in the Jacksonville area worshipped in a small house that was located by Sis. Bertha See. Those of the Heights area held religious services in the home of Sis. Bessie Garrison, located at the corner of Eldridge Street and Railroad Road Avenue.
Mount Zion has always been about the business of making disciples for Jesus Christ and this spiritual zeal is as fervent as ever. The working spirit of our pioneers is still an inspiration to this very day.
In 2015 Mt. Zion moved to the current site located at 1625 Union Street, Clearwater, Florida with the continued mission of making disciples for Jesus Christ.
Over the past 97 years, we have been richly blessed with pastoral leadership of some 26 ministers and we thank God for the contribution each has made in advancing the kingdom of God.
This year, we celebrate our 98th Anniversary and we pray for and seek God’s direction for the future. Jesus commands us in Matthew 28:19-20, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” This is our primary reason for being in existence. To God the glory!
